Welcome to the K.D Blog! A little bit of me and... well, whatever pops into my head!

Creative Minds are Rarely Tidy...

Posted on

As the title of this post suggests, I am one of those creative minds.  And I'm definitely not tidy, so it would seem that the quote is correct! A jumble of thoughts, ideas, opinions and sometimes even just general randomness spin around my brain on a daily basis!  I do like to think though that my creative and untidy mind is one of my greatest assets.

I love making and creating things and, along with a few other factors of course, this has led me to where I am today... venturing out on my own as a 'business woman'.  I suppose that's what I am, although that does seem far too fancy a term for me! My name is Kirsty and, above all else, I am a wife and I am a mother. Despite my creative mind, those are my two most important jobs, and I wouldn't change them for the world. I live here in South Devon with my beautiful family and nothing is more important to me than them.  Actually, my family was a big part of my decision to branch out and do what I do, but that's a story for another time!

Previously, my love of making was always a hobby; something fun to keep my creative mind occupied - even as a child, when building things from various bits of junk was my favourite school holiday pastime!  Since then I've tried a variety of crafts from paper-craft, glass painting, knitting, crochet (don't ask how this went - the words 'Epic Fail' spring to mind!) and card making.  Card making was one of my favourites... I used to make cards for all occasions and, to this day, still make my family handmade cards for Christmas! I even made my own invitations for my Wedding in 2012 (for anyone considering this, it's a fantastic option - very cost effective! I definitely recommend it!) But, again, I'm going off on a tangent! See? Untidy...!

Eventually, whilst on maternity leave with my youngest daughter to be precise, I discovered jewellery making and another creative hobby was born! I felt such a great sense of achievement in creating something so pretty and was, to be completely honest, amazed when people were interested in buying them! It took a lot of umm-ing and aah-ing and a great big kick up the you-know-what from a friend (and fellow crafty-business owner!) for me to decide to set up on my own, but I did and the rest, as they say, is history!

I love what I do now and I guess I have my very creatively-untidy mind to thank...
